Lion's mane is an edible mushroom with long cascading spines, cultivated for food in East Asia and increasingly in Europe.

Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) extract is available in two forms: standardised to a minimum polysaccharide content, or as a ratio extract that states the concentration of the raw material.

Choosing a specification

• Polysaccharide grades (for example 30% UV) give a defined marker content per serving.
• Ratio extracts suit formulas that declare the dried-mushroom equivalent.
• The specification sheet states the material used (fruiting body or mycelium) and the extraction solvent. Ask for it before you compare offers.

How to compare specifications

Compare offers using the same marker and the same analytical method: UV and HPLC can give different percentages for comparable material. For ratio extracts, ask for the specification sheet to check the ratio, solvent and plant part.

Quality and documentation

Every lot comes with a certificate of analysis stating the assay and method. The specification sheet and further statements (for example allergens or GMO status) are available on request, and samples can be sent with their documents before you order.

Handling and storage

Store in the original sealed packaging in a cool, dry place away from light. Reseal opened containers promptly to protect the product from moisture.
