Gummies as private label: from base formula to minimum order

A step-by-step guide to launching a private label gummy, from choosing the base and the actives to samples, packaging and minimum order quantities.

Why gummies are a common first format

Gummies are one of the most requested formats for private label supplements. They are easy to take, they suit a wide range of ingredients, and they give a brand a clear product to build around. They also bring specific challenges: the base affects taste and texture, the actives must be stable in the base, and the minimum order is set by the production run, not by the number of units you want.

Our gummies format covers the production route. This guide sets out the steps and the decisions in order.

Step 1: Choose the active and the dose

Start with the ingredient and the dose you want on the label. A dose per gummy sets the active load, and the active load sets how much of the base the formula needs. A high-dose active can change the texture, the colour or the taste of the finished gummy, so the formula is always tested rather than calculated on paper alone.

Send the ingredient and the target dose per gummy to us. We check the specification and the form available, for example extract, powder or a salt, and we point out any stability or taste issue before you commit.

Step 2: Choose the base

The gummy base decides the texture, the bite and the shelf stability. Base choice also affects the claims you can make and the allergen statement on the label. Discuss the base with us before you finalise the formula, so the sensory test runs on the base you will actually produce.

Step 3: Test samples

Request samples of the active and run a trial batch. Check the taste, the texture after one week and the colour under normal storage. A short test saves weeks of rework later. Keep the trial notes: the same notes become the basis of the production specification.

Step 4: Set the specification

Once the formula is approved, the specification fixes the active content, the moisture, the microbial limits and the weight per gummy. Every production batch is tested against this specification. Ask for the certificate of analysis for each active and check that it matches the approved specification.

Step 5: Packaging and labelling

Choose the packaging early. Jars and pouches have different moisture barriers, and the pack size affects the cost per unit. The label must carry the ingredients, the allergens, the net weight, the storage advice and the nutrition information, so bring the final artwork to the first call.

Step 6: Minimum order

Gummy production runs have a minimum batch size set by the mould, the mixing capacity and the packing line. The minimum order is the quantity needed to run a batch efficiently, so it is usually higher than a single retail launch. Plan your first order around that minimum and the expected sell-through, and ask us for the exact figure for your format and pack size.

What to send us to start

  • The active and the dose per gummy.
  • The target pack size and the number of gummies per pack.
  • The launch volume for the first six months.
  • Your target markets and any claims you plan to make.

We reply with a quote, a proposed production route and the documents within one hour on business days. You can also start with a sample request.
